The Department of Industrial Sciences at Artesis University College Antwerp comprises four academic programmes leading to the diploma in Industrial Engineering, respectively in, construction, chemistry, electromechanics, and electronics-ICT. From Day One, the student elects one of these four programmes.

The Bachelor and Master programmes leading to the degree of Industrial Engineer are competency-oriented and taught at an academic level. The teaching is, as it were, grafted onto research activities in collaboration with universities and Flemish and international research institutions. The academic Bachelor programme is made up of 180 credits. Students can continue their studies with a Master programme of 60 credits.

The courses are slanted towards industry, meaning that they turn industry and the industrial world at large into important partners. Projects, laboratory practical applications, traineeships …, everything that is being taught during the programme is based on concrete technological and scientific issues derived from the industrial world and its practices.

From the very start, the programmes are oriented to fit the student's initial selection, namely the choice between construction, chemistry, electromechanics, or electronics-ICT. Engineering skills are taught in alternating exchanges between practical applications and laboratory work. This practice-oriented approach works successfully, with retention of the required knowledge level, as a stimulant towards the acquisition of the theoretical knowledge.
The Paardenmarkt Campus, where the courses are being taught, is located in the very centre of Antwerp, the inner city. On and around the Campus you will find a broad range of student services and facilities, student accommodations, and a fascinating, exciting student life.

Excellent Employment Opportunities

The shortage in the labour market of technologically-trained employees with a higher degree is acute. Industrial Engineering vacancies are very difficult to fill with qualified personnel. Your Master diploma qualifications guarantee you access to a broad spectrum of professional profiles in a field where opportunities for advancement are legion. In the course of your academic career you will systematically be in contact with major and medium-sized corporations and enterprises from within the region that are conducting ongoing searches for qualified engineers.
After gaining your Masters diploma, you also will have the opportunity, via an adapted course trajectory, to continue your studies towards the degree of Civil Engineering at a Flemish (or foreign) university. The pursuit of other 'ManaMa' (Master-after-Master) degrees is likewise a possibility to consider.
Should you have an especially strong talent for research, obtain first-rate results in your Master programme, and if, in addition, you can submit an excellent Master thesis, you may be considered a candidate to become attached as doctoral assistant to a course research group.

Madam Engineer

Women are still under-represented in the fields of sciences and technology and, as in the past, fewer female than male students opt to enrol in industrial sciences courses. However, a searching mind, creativity, problem-solving thinking, intelligence, curiosity about the 'why' of things ... all these attributes are not exclusively male properties. An equal and fully-developed collaboration of women in all science disciplines and at all levels can only lead to greater diversity and thus promote and improve quality in the scientific field.

International

The academic programmes are offered in concert with foreign partner institutes where you may possibly go and study for one semester.
Projects are situated within an international context, and study travel or traineeships in another country or on another continent are very feasible propositions. It goes without saying that the courses closely follow international developments in the professional field and maintain contact and collaboration with a great number of international forums.
