product development Print E-mail
Have you ever given any serious thought to all that is involved when a company launches a new product on the market? There is more to it than you might imagine!

Well nigh all products are being produced industrially, whatever their size, whatever the complexity of their development. In all instances, they were conceived, elaborated on, designed, and developed technically. In the process, account is taken of their likely success in the market, the company's strategy, the image, the latest technological advances, the environment, the ease-of-use, the design and form, plus a dozen other crucial aspects.

That constitutes product development: new products for new markets! Product designers are professionals able to creatively apply different techniques in order to develop a structured product design: from concept to the point of market introduction. In the process, they are forever searching for added value for the new product. As such, these people are neither designers looking for just a new fancy dress for the product, nor inventors.

In the course of the programme, you will spontaneously develop a host of skills: thinking and reflecting in team-context, working constructively, learning to schedule and use time productively, giving effective presentations, defending your ideas with cogent argumentation, etc. These are the notable skills that you will in the future unquestionably be able to bring to bear during your professional career. And, you can't fail to discover the international flavour of this programme: study travel, Erasmus-exchanges, international design weeks, guest speakers…

During the 3 Bachelor years, you will have opportunity to collaborate with well-known companies such as Procter & Gamble, Kreon, Beckaert, Egemin, Jaga, De Ster, Mio, and others. In your final year, you will for your graduating thesis develop a personal relationship and collaboration with a company, a partner in the industry, or a knowledge institution. Such experiences will greatly assist you in developing a feel for the practice of product development. The competencies acquired at that stage will stand you in good stead in the course of your future career.
